This is an honour limited to about 350 people world-wide, most of whom, unlike Martin, are in research and development laboratories. In 2001, Martin was elected a member of the IBM Academy of Technology, a supreme peer group of about 300 which influences IBM’s future technical direction. He was made a Fellow of the British Computer Society in 1997, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers in 1998, and a Chartered Engineer in 1998. He has contributed to many IBM technical books and presentation guides, especially on the MVS operating systems, and its successor, OS/390, as well as working with the press, consultants and software vendors.
Previously Martin was the large systems security expert for IBM UK, and was the IBM representative to the UK RACF Guide Group from 1984 to 1995.
